Personally, I grew up in a very conservative household.
Thankfully I had movies and TV shows to guide me, so most of the characters I admired were also really accepting and cool towards others. Plus, growing up Muslim really helped me identify with others who were oppressed and treated poorly regardless of race and ethnicity.
One of the biggest hurdles for me to overcome personally, however, was to become an advocate for the LGBTQ community. My religious upbringing told me same-sex relationships were wrong, which always bugged me, but Allah couldn't be wrong, right? Thankfully, I learned to put that thinking aside. Honestly, I could only imagine how tough it is for someone who identifies as LGBTQ to come out to their conservative parents.
The video was put together by Home Is Love, a Taiwanese group that promotes same-sex marriage equality.
Commenters are praising the videos touching message and are sharing their own stories, as well.
"I am so very touched. Love and acceptance – this is what the world needs. I hope that everyone can have a family built on love."Amen.
