A group of about 50 armed gunmen have ambushed the Kamwenje General Service Unit (GSU) command centre and shot one officer on the head.
The incident occurred at the border of Laikipia and Baringo counties, bringing the tally of officers injured in the area over the last month to seven.
Nation reports that the bandits raided the command centre on the afternoon of Monday, August 30 and started firing bullets indiscriminately at the police officers who were outside.

The GSU officer who was injured during the attack is receiving treatment at the Nakuru War Memorial Hospital.
Laikipia County has in the recent past witnessed a series of attacks meted against police officers on duty.
On August 2, for instance, a senior GSU Inspector lost his life after another ambush as the team was doing normal patrols around the Laikipia Nature Conservancy.
The incident was followed two weeks later by another shooting that left four police officers dead.
Last week, two GSU officers who were part of the security team dispatched to patrol the area survived with gunshot wounds after they were attacked by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Laikipia North.

The two were attacked at the Loisaba Ranch after they pulled out of the road to replace their vehicle's flat tyre.

The attacks have been linked to drought and rivalry among the various tribes due to the lack of enough pastures and water for their livestock.
Laikipia county has also become a hotbed of conflict after bandits and herders from neighbouring counties invaded white-owned ranches.
